Question about French? D:?

I asked this several days ago and still don't understand... In French,the verb changes depending on what your talking about eg, je attends nous attendons and vous attendez. But which form of the verb do you use when addressing a person or thing? Such as 'Lily attends' or 'L'arbre attends (sorry for the random examples) please just say 'when speaking about a person you use the same rule as 'je' or 'nous' or whatever the correct answer is because talking about subjects and clauses confuses me -_- thanks a lot :)
