Burial of Osama's dead body at sea?

Why would the US authorities bury the dead body of Osama Bin Ladin at sea? This doesn't make sense at all, afterall they've struggled to hunt down their nemesis they ain't gonna bring Osama's dead body to the US to show evidence/proof that he's really dead but instead put him at sea?
